This homage to the soldiers is paid each year alternatively in the American and anglo-canadian sectors.
The day starts with a church service celebrated in a military cemetery. A wreath laying ceremony follows along with the hoisting of flags, hymns and speeches from the representatives of the Allied Nations.
And people follow the veterans'footsteps on the assault troops itineraries and pay homage at the numerous monuments.

Every 5 years there are ceremonies in both sectors. Ceremonies take place over two days. And the Government takes charge of the ceremonies when it is the date of an important Anniversary (40th, 50th …).
