Founding & assignment

In 1945, plans were conceived for a D.Day Museum at Arromanches and construction started in 1952, the architect being François Carpentier. The museum was inaugurated by René Coty, Président de la République in 1954.

The French government did not contribute much as the large number of visitors permitted a return on investments. Along with the new museum at Pegasus Bridge, built in 2000, 400 000 visitors provide the Committee with an annual income to finance its projects.
